No, Our Legacy - Our Future is NOT a fundraising entity. It is a national effort to raise awareness and to support the partners in their individual fundraising campaigns. Our Legacy - Our Future will not collect a single dollar of its own.

Every so often, someone questions why there is a need to support the dental education system if new schools are being built across the country. This is really a question of apples and oranges. In fact, while several communities have determined the need additional dental schools, these new schools will face the same challenges as the current schools do. New schools, while necessary, will not "solve" the problems for existing schools.
The American Dental Education Association attributes this growth in part to the shear influx of students applying to dental school. More and more people want to become dentists - but even more well-qualified and well-trained dentists are needed.
Unfortunately, this sign of growth does not imply that the dental education system is as steady and strong as we all hope that it might be. In fact, the opening of these new schools only underscores the importance of this effort. These new schools will suffer from many of the same challenges that established dental schools already face. They will still struggle to find and hire qualified full-time faculty, diversity issues will still exist, the cost to purchase the latest equipment and technology will impact them financially, and high student tuition and resulting debt will continue to lure graduates into private-practice vs. careers in academia.
And with government funding already on the decline, more schools will compete for the same limited pool of dollars, thus making private support even more important. Add to this the factor that with so much demand in dental school applications, the government will expect the profession to do its part to step up to the plate. And unlike established schools, these new schools won't be able to count on the generous philanthropy of dedicated alumni.
We wish these new schools would not have to endure the same challenges, but realistically, this only shows that it's the entire dental education system that needs our support.
