Recently, 3i Implant Innovations, Inc. made a $300,000 commitment to the American Academy of Periodontology Foundation to support the Richard J. Lazzara Fellowship in Advanced Implant Surgery.
This generous gift to the American Academy of Periodontology Foundation, a partner in Dental Education: Our Legacy - Our Future, is a great example of how organizations can provide support to help strengthen our dental education system. A donation such as this helps to address two key needs in our dental education system - dental school operating costs and the high cost of tuition and mounting student debt. Along with offering a remarkable experience, the Lazzara Fellowship assists both the student and his/her institution with the escalating costs associated with our dental education system.
The $50,000 Fellowship provides educational and clinical experiences offering the most current techniques in implant dentistry. It not only provides a stipend to the awarded student, but also helps to offset the overhead and administrative costs of the hosting institution. The 12-month program gives the student an opportunity to participate in research and share his/her experience with other students.
The Lazzara Fellowship in Advanced Implant Surgery is named in honor of one of the specialty's true innovators in the field of implantology. Dr. Lazzara practices periodontics and implant dentistry in West Palm Beach, Florida. He is currently clinical associate professor at the University of Southern California School of Dentistry and associate clinical professor at the University of Maryland, Periodontal and Implant Regenerative.
