American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry Foundation
Dr. Jerome B. Miller of Oklahoma City pledged $1 million to establish the Dr. Jerome B. Miller Pediatric Dental Education & Leadership Fund within the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) Foundation. The Fund was established to help address the many issues involved with educating future pediatric dentists. With this support, the Miller Fund will help to improve children's oral health.
In the February 5 issue of ADA News, Dr. Miller said, "I'm so lucky to be a dentist and enjoy a fun practice and career, I felt like it was time to give back. Now is the time to step up and set the bar for my colleagues to support the profession and our specialty."*
Dr. Miller's decision to make such a generous donation was influenced in part by Our Legacy - Our Future. "We have to find solutions for the challenges facing our educational system, and these are a few of the people who say there's an urgency and we have to get people who can help," said Dr. Miller.*
As a result of Dr. Miller's generous gift, the AAPD Foundation has initiated a campaign for AAPD members, benefactors, and corporate sponsors to contribute to the Miller Fund and bolster its assets for education. AAPD is successfully fulfilling one of the major goals of Our Legacy - Our Future by encouraging a culture of philanthropy within its membership to give back to dental education.
Dr. Miller has been actively involved in the pediatric dental community for the past forty years, and chose the profession based on his mission to improve children's health. He has received numerous awards during his career including the first ever American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry Foundation's Legacy Circle Award, the AAPD's Pediatric Dentist of the Year and Distinguished Service Awards, and the Oklahoma Dental Association's Dentist of the Year Award. Dr. Miller has served as past president of the AAPD and the AAPD Foundation.
Dr. Miller has been in practice in Oklahoma City for the past forty years. He is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma and Baylor University College of Dentistry with B.S., D.D.S, and M.S.D. degrees. During his tenure, Dr. Miller served as president or chairman of over a dozen different dental groups and organizations including the Oklahoma Dental Association, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the AAPD Foundation, and the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Miller and his wife, Jacque, have two children, Julie and Kevin, and a grandson Jack.
